Join local geoscientist Megan Lech on a guided Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary Geoheritage Safari, where she will take you on a 430-million-year journey — from the warm tropical seas of the Canberra Formation, past the violently explosive volcanoes of the Mount Ainslie Volcanics, to the present-day rolling hills and unique chain-of-ponds drainage system.

This relaxed seated safari combines gentle short walks with shuttle bus journeys along the new Mulligans Flat Geoheritage Trail route, making the experience accessible to a wide range of participants while still offering close-up encounters with the landscape.

Over approximately 2.5 hours, participants will explore the geology that underpins the sanctuary’s scenery, ecosystems and cultural history. Along the way, Megan will showcase local rocks, landforms and soils that reveal clues to the Canberra region’s ancient past and explain how geology continues to shape biodiversity, water movement and human connections to Country today.
